"Geraniums in the Cottage"

"Geraniums in the Cottage"
oil, 8x8
Sold

Red geraniums have been one of my all time favorites to paint. This piece was in my
thoughts and had to paint it. Sometimes remembering what I have seen before.

What started the old window scene, we were staying at a cottage in Carmel,
the window in the kitchen was looking out at the beautiful landscape
with a window box full of red geraniums in front of the window. I have been
  painting them ever since.

"Geraniums in White"

oil, 8x10

I am always asked about my geranium paintings, so I thought I
would do some more of them.
When doing a painting I am always changing the composition
until it feels right. Maybe a flower shouldn't be there or
moved. Every painting is always a challenge from the
beginning to the end but that's what makes it so much fun.

Cosmos bipinnatus are one of the most common annuals here in
the US. There are around 20 species of these beautiful
and colorful flowers.
I usually like to mix lobelia in with other flowers as I did here.

"Hydrangeas and Lobelias"

Hydrangeas and Lobelias
oil, 8x10"

Most hydrangeas are white but also come in blue, pink, red and purple
depending on  the acidity in the soil. If the soil is neutral they become
more pale in color, pink and purple. If the soil is acidic they turn blue.
They originated from Asia, North and South America.
There are 100 species of the hydrangea shrub.
Flowers truly gain my interest, there are so many of them and are
so beautiful. I guess that's why I paint them.

"Geranium Cuttings"
Oil, 8x10"

I set these red geranium cuttings in olive jars in my studio,
the buds were starting to open, so I couldn't waste
time in painting them.
Love the reds against the green compliments.

"Tools to Create"

"Tools to Create"
8"x10", oil
Sold

I love painting brushes that I use to paint with. So many
thoughts, energy and confusion come through each stroke
of the brush. The desire is there, the choice, the happy times the
frustration times are all there while glaring at my
progression as the the brush hits the canvas.
Is it Ok? Or am I really asking, am I OK?

Crisp White Peonies

"Crisp White Peonies"
oil, 8x10
Sold

Painting flowers brings a joy in my life. They are so
beautiful and so many to choose from. Before picking any out,
I examine them carefully to see which one strikes me the most.
It's hard because there are so many choices.
God brings so much beauty in our lives and it's all
around us.

The Lemon

"The Lemon"
oil, 8x10

Set this still life up and painted it from life.  My son made this beautiful
bowl in his pottery class. He did so well with pottery but
never pursued it, he was more into sports. I was drawn to the
lemon casting a striking reflection on the table and on the bowl.

"Cow in the Meadow"

"Cow in the Meadow"
oil, 8x8
Sold

On a trip to California we stopped off at Duncan Mills. There
were cows grazing in the meadow, got a few photos shots of
them. They don't seem to be shy at having their pictures
taken. This one here seemed to love it.

Teacup and Comfort

"Teacup and Comfort"
oil, 8x10

I set this still life up and painted it from life. My sister-in-law gave me
this beautiful teacup along with many more that I plan on painting.
I used the plant to add direction with the leaves to encircle the teacup
leading to the book. The teacups shadow also keeps it in the circle. The plant
and book seem to be comforting the teacup just like those
that love you.
