I start with sketching in the composition, always checking balance and placement
of each shape. Next, I start blocking in with a thin wash of either color or
burnt sienna. I then start adding paint, concentrating on values and shapes.
To finish, my goal is to give it strength, stronger color in areas where needed, making
sure my values are where they belong. Light to strong darks on the value scale.

Our travels to California, we drove through the Presidio in
San Francisco. This Military base which has been closed for
quite awhile now has become a national park.
The history of Presidio is very interesting, here is some information on
it taken from Wikileaks.
It had been a fortified location since September 17, 1776, when New Spain established it to gain a foothold in Alta California and the San Francisco Bay. It passed to Mexico, which in turn passed it to the United States in 1848.[6] As part of a 1989 military reduction program under the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, Congress voted to end the Presidio's status as an active military installation of the U.S. Army. On October 1, 1994, it was transferred to the National Park Service, ending 219 years of military use and beginning its next phase of mixed commercial and public use.[7]

This is a place that we would drive by quite often when spending
time with my family at the Russian River in California.
Years ago my grandfather built a cabin for all to enjoy, a lot of
good memories there growing up. There are eight of us and the
cabin wasn't that big, but we all got along just fine (sometimes).
Once a year the family, not all but some still spend time there, my
mom for sure, every year.
This is one of the times that we spent time there and spotted this
vineyard against the red building. I thought this would make a wonderful
painting. Loved the red amongst all the green.

On our travels to California we went through Oregon and
this beautiful fog bank was rolling across the mountains to where
they were hardly visible.

"Sunflower Aglow"

 "Sunflower Aglow"
oil, 8x8"

This Sunflower was my on my kitchen island, above it is
a skylight that beamed down beautiful light and kept some of
it in shadow. On the island the light hit just this one
small spot.
